Congratulations to the 2008 Diamond Award winners

Press Release 05.08.2008

Twenty local organizations, companies and individuals were recognized for exceptional commitment and innovative leadership in transportation solutions. The 2008 Diamond Award winners regularly went “above and beyond” when it comes to providing commute trip reduction programs to employees. The winners were announced May 8, 2008 at the fifteenth annual award event at the Seattle Marriott Waterfront Hotel.

Thank you and congratulations also to this year's Pacesetters—for their outstanding commute trip reduction efforts.

Diamond Award winners implement a variety of innovative programs to reduce commute trips, including incentives for motivating employees to bus, carpool, vanpool, bicycle, walk, work compressed schedules, or telework instead of driving alone to work every day. In 2007, worksites that participated in the Commute Trip Reduction program removed nearly 26,000 vehicles off of Washington’s roads each workday morning. CTR commuters reduced petroleum consumption in Washington State by 7.9 million gallons in 2007, saving approximately $23 million through the choices they made in the program. The end result is an estimated reduction of 85,678 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions or the carbon dioxide-equivalent.

“We congratulate the outstanding accomplishments of this year’s Diamond Award winners. These leaders take the time to really look at what programs and services would get their employees out of single occupancy vehicles and then put the organization's resources—whether personnel, money, facilities, or otherwise—behind the program,” says Commuter Challenge Executive Director Steve Gerritson. “It is these businesses and individuals we recognize with a Diamond Award.”
