Long before there was a CTR law, Brown and Caldwell encouraged employees to use commuting alternatives to driving alone to the downtown Seattle site. The company has been active voluntarily for many years. Today, it is affected by the state law, and it was easy to continue making a difference. Eighty percent of employees use transit, and the firm now offers a subsidized FlexPass. Ninety percent of its 110 employees participate in the commute program. The company has an innovative, full service “hoteling” office in Issaquah to reduce unnecessary employee trips to the main offices. Currently this option saves over 400 miles of commuting travel a week. As an environmental engineering, consulting and construction management firm, Brown and Caldwell is committed to reducing traffic and environmental impacts for its clients and its employees.
*Some definitions: An "ETC" is the staff-level
employee transportation coordinator responsible for the daily administration
of the transportation program. "SOV" stands for single-occupant
vehicle, and "CTR" for commute trip reduction.
