REI is a hands-on company that wholeheartedly supports employee’s work and life balance. In 2008, REI was named one of Fortune Magazine’s "100 Best Companies to Work For" in America for the 12th consecutive year. Michelle, as the ETC for the Kent headquarters location, works passionately and diligently to enhance REI's employee commuting programs, ultimately reducing its carbon footprint and encouraging employee balance. Commute trip reduction is integrated into corporate culture through outstanding programs, employee support and management leadership. At headquarters, REI employees can take advantage of generous transit and ridesharing subsidies, in addition to innovative teleworking and car sharing programs. Over the last year, Michelle completely revamped the vanpool program resulting in the formation of nine new vanpools! REI also introduced a partnership with Enterprise Rent-A-Car to provide two Prius Hybrid cars for use by employees who have alternative commutes in the WeCar share program.
Michelle works hard to find innovative solutions that remove barriers and encourage more employees to commute alternatively. She even inspires others by commuting to work by bicycle!
*Some definitions: An "ETC" is the staff-level
employee transportation coordinator responsible for the daily administration
of the transportation program. "SOV" stands for single-occupant
vehicle, and "CTR" for commute trip reduction.
